I hope quarantine has woken you up

Life is uncertain.

It always has been.

Your inevitable mortality is life’s only certainty.

It sucks to think about — so we don’t.

Instead, you do everything in your power to create certainty and normalcy.

The same routine. Day in and day out.

Overlooking the interactions with others, what’s around you, inside you.

Avoiding the conversations you need to have with others, with yourself.

Thinking that there is more time. That those things will happen later.

They won’t.

There isn’t more time.

Now that you’ve spent 8 weeks controlled by a virus, I hope you realize what you’ve missed.

“The quality of our relationships determines the quality of our lives.” — Esther Perel

You have missed community.

You have missed relationships.

You have missed hugs.

You have missed laughter, love, eye contact.

And these are the important things in life.

At the end, when you take your last dying breath, these things you will remember.

The moments that will have mattered.

It will be the community and the love in your heart.

It will be the strength of your relationships.

These are the most important things in life.

Remember that.
